COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT THE MG COMMUNITY… The MG Walk isn’t really about walking — it’s about supporting the MG community, and we need YOU to make that happen.
MG is a rare and chronic neuromuscular autoimmune disease affecting tens of thousands of people. When you come together with friends and family to walk in your community, you give hope to everyone impacted by MG. Money raised from the MG Walk funds research towards better treatments, bringing us closer to a cure, and supports services for those living with MG. That’s why we join forces at this event—walking or not—supporting each other toward the ultimate finish line, a world without myasthenia gravis!
Register now to join an existing team, or to start and Captain your own!
All that’s left after that, is to customize your FREE personal fundraising page (in your participant center), share your connection to myasthenia gravis and start fundraising! To make your fundraising even easier, make sure to download the NEW FREE MGFA MG Walk App from your mobile device's App store!
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MG WALK HERO
I started my MG journey on July 27, 2015 and it changed my life forever. I was sitting in front of a computer when a nurse told me. Then I was told I would have to wait 2 months To see the Dr.
I was working as a Chef in a kitchen when I was diagnosed. One day after work at an Indians game ,my friends wife said my eye was dropping enough to go to the Dr. She thought I had Bell’s palsy, nope, MG.
In November of 2017 I started a journey to try and change my life with functional medicine, I had always been fluffy but now I was 425 pounds.
By October of 2019 I was down to 285 pounds, I had lost over 125 pounds on my own, and it wasn’t bad.
MG exacerbates everything, so while I was trying to help my body, I was thrown another wrench(as we all are at times) my marriage fell apart ...and somehow found myself having to file for divorce.
All within 1 month, I filled for divorce after 16 yrs., lost my best friend and companion (Gracie black lab) after 13 years, and had to completely move out of the Double house I had completely painstakingly refinished each room.
All that said , if some of those things hadn’t happened I don’t know if I would have ever found out about functional medicine and made the steps to have me here today. I have many issues(as we all do) need 4-5 surgeries just to get back to even, but the support, friendship, and positive attitudes of people who have come before me keep me pushing. I don’t see myself as a hero in any way, just trying to push thru each day as best I can.
